No Budget Film Festival Recap

On the last Thursday of a beautiful August night in Los Angeles, Cartel's 2nd annual No Budget Film Festival took place. The venue for this unique event was the multi-tiered theater/entertainment plaza, The Downtown Independent. The night was filled with glitz, glamour, and plenty of fun.

Every aspect of this night exuded professionalism and legitimacy. From the red carpet that was setup with a a full photo-op backdrop as soon as you enter the venue, to the prompt and well-timed announcements when the nights activities would begin, to the glamorous wardrobes by all the attendees, And finally, the delicious catered bites provided by Whim Kitchen and fantastic live entertainment provided by Black Noise. Cartel had everything covered.

The film festival itself was of course the best part of the night. Even though the teaser trailer gave everybody insight about the films included, it was remarkable to see how these talented filmmakers and actors were capable of creating such compelling eight minute short films with absolutely no budget. The films stretched across such a wide spectrum of genres. There was comedy, interpretive dance, a documentary, animation, drama, and romance to name a few. Every film had its own special charm.

Congratulations to Steve Wilson's film The Bellybutton on winning top honors. And congratulations to Cartel: Collaborative Arts La for putting together such an fantastic event! Here are some key photos from the night:
